Dubai, UAE; October 10, 2022: 33 Italian Startups are participating at North Star Dubai, one of the GITEX 3.0 events dedicated to the innovative entrepreneur ecosystem, that kicked off today at the Dubai World Trade Centre. With over 14,600 startups registered as of July 2022, the Italian innovative startups sector has shown great dynamism in recent year.
Selected by the Italian Trade Agency, the 33 Italian Startups are hosted in the Italy Pavilion located in Za’abeel Hall 6. Innovative solutions that use blockchain, AI and augmented reality for sustainable mobility, healthcare, education, new payment systems and waste reduction are presented by the Italian participants.
Recently the Italian Government has launched a Euro 1 billion investment program aimed at the native startup ecosystem to create new opportunities and to promote innovation as a key driver for the growth of the national economy. The goal is to foster the technological and digital transformation of companies, in order to overcome the contraction induced by the pandemic crisis and direct the recovery of investments towards strategic areas for competitiveness and sustainable growth.
Amedeo Scarpa, Italian Trade Commissioner to the UAE said: “The number of Italian startups keeps growing and official numbers confirm the positive trend already underway in 2021. 14,600 startups have been registered in Italy as of July 2022, 3.7% of all national newly established joint stock companies. This represents 15% of the total number of Italian companies (105,000) active into high-tech sectors.
Software production, IT consulting, research and development, manufacturing of machinery and electronic products are the most popular activities and startups founded by under 35s account for 17.4% of the total.”
North Star brings together the most influential players in the global startup ecosystem, and Italy’s Pavilion offers to a selected number of Italian startups the opportunity to put their products in the spotlight, to find investors and grow their presence on international markets.
Sustainability is a crucial issue and at the top of the agenda for Italy and startups play a key role in moving forward towards more sustainable practices and methodologies in all sectors, many times thanks to the use of innovative technologies.

Six of the startups are grouped in regional area organised by Marche Region, one of the twenty regions of Italy, whose economy is mostly based on clusters of SMEs working in traditional manufacturing sectors (e.g. typical Made in Italy products such as shoes, clothing, electric appliances, machinery, furniture etc.). Marche is a very fertile region for business creation and almost 400 innovative startups have been registered in 2021, many of them in the high technology, artificial intelligence and information technology sectors.
